IT'S HERE!!!!!!!! The Big Windows Update 2017

Every year Windows 10 users can expect a big update to their operating system. The update checks your system and, providing your computer is up to it, will automatically download and install itself.

Be warned!!! This update will likely take a long time to run through. Your computer will take a long time to shut down and a long time to restart the next time you start it up. It is not a fault, so please do not reboot your computer until the update has finished.

During the Windows major update period we get very busy because people have panicked and powered down their computer.

If you are in any way uncertain we can help you update your computer. Simply bring your laptop or desktop to the workshop and we will update all of your drivers, back up all of your personal data and then carry out the Windows update for you. Once completed we will make sure everything is working as it should. As is our standard level of service - all machines will receive a cleanout of dust from the internal components, a virus & malware scan and a registry tidy up. All of this for our standard service price for one hours labour (it takes a lot longer than an hour)

If your computer is unable to accept the update we can also advise on how to move forwards and keep your information safe. After all, keeping the operating system up to date is an essential part of staying safe online. You can see if you are getting the update by looking at Windows update and checking the version number. The latest version is 1709.

Newer computers will get the updates first, our machines at the office have already been done, my own computer at home is busy downloading the update in the background whilst I type this blog post. After the latest machines have been updated the older machines will start to get the update. These are the machines most at risk of having problems. Despite the updates being staggered we already have our first casualty in the workshop being repaired due to being a good machine but just a little older.

Microsoft have to make sure that every computer possible can get the update and make software that is compatible with thousands of hardware component configurations that allow PC users to have the greatest choice and versatility possible. It is this massive choice of options we have open to us that can cause the problems and having someone look over your computer to prevent any issues arising is a prudent move.
